You can find all information on conditions, benefits and the selection procedure on this page.

The a&o Kunsthalle is the flagship exhibition space of the stART Foundation. The opening took place on November 30th, 2018 and has been offering students, artists and those who want to become one, the opportunity to experience the planning and implementation of exhibitions by themselves. The program of the a&o Kunsthalle is curated by its team and accompanied by mediating framework programs.

The former 19th century depot of the railway post office at Leipzig Central Station was redesigned in 2018 to transform the empty 500 square metre hall into a flexible exhibition and event location.

The a&o Kunsthalle aims to discover young and up-coming artists, to present their works of art professionally and to offer opportunities to participate in group and solo exhibitions in collaboration with young curators. Our aim is to create a dialogue between singularities and collectives - curators and artists, collectives and institutions, locals and visitors.

We strive to develop new concepts that enable talented artists to present themselves and their artworks in various forms and on various platforms, as well as to establish links to art academies and art institutions and to open space for cultural interaction and cooperations.

The a&o Kunsthalle team has been working on a flexible, courageous concept of constant self-reflection during the early age to give each exhibition and each artist the tools which are needed for a successful and fulfilling exhibition. In this way, the a&o Kunsthalle is transformed into a laboratory, dedicated to the cultural diversity that characterizes this unique common space.

Expectations

Fellows are asked for the following:

  • to do one public presentation, performance, workshop, or similar event during their exhibition period.

Selection Procedure

The decision regarding the fellowships’ allocation is taken by the team of the a&o Kunsthalle and independent specialist jurors responsible for the various spheres. Fellowships are usually awarded for an exhibition period between 2–3 months.

The international first-rate jury guarantees that the chosen fellows are of a high artistic and scientific level. The jurors base their decisions on the qualitative aspects of work samples submitted by the applicants.

There is no legal entitlement to the allocation of a fellowship. The applicant will be informed of the jury’s decision in writing, but no reasons will be given. Individuals embarking on fellowships receive a foundation contract and a set of house rules. Fellowships are deemed legally effective after the foundation contract has been signed.
